On Tuesday, the police found that a 13-year-old boy from UP's Meerut had sent the hoax mail as a "prank" to check if the authorities could track him down, News18 reported.
The authorities said that boy sent the email from his phone and used his mother's WiFi connection. He lated deleted the email ID.
NDTV quoted Usha Rangnani, Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGI Airport as saying that the boy got excited after seeing the news of the bomb threat.
"He also told us that the next day, he saw the hoax bomb threat news at Delhi Airport in the media and felt excited. However, he did not share any information with his parents out of fear," she said.
The boy reportedly told authorities during the interrogation that he got the idea of sending the hoax mail from media reports about a similar hoax call at Mumbai airport.
