The Congress has asked the Election Commission (EC) to take note and said it plans to file a police complaint against an AI-generated video posted from the official X handle of Assam BJP.
The video titled ‘Assam without BJP’ shows men in skull caps, apparently Muslims, everywhere right from tea states to Guwahati airport and Accoland. The video ends with a text saying ‘90% Muslim population’, followed by ‘Choose your vote carefully’.
“We can’t let this dream of Paaijaan to be true!!” the BJP Assam Pradesh captioned the post. The BJP has coined the name Paijaan for Gogoi, a term it has repeatedly used in social media posts after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma accused him of being a “Pakistani stooge.”
On Wednesday, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate shared the post and, tagging the EC’s official handle, said: “Do you not have any objection to such posts? BJP is spreading venom in this manner -- Gyanesh ji (a reference to chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar), will you continue to be a mute spectator as usual by calling it a conspiracy?”
Bedabrata Bora, Assam Congress leader, said the party will file a complaint against the said post at the Bhangagarh Police Station in Guwahati on Thursday, according to a report by The Indian Express.
“The words, actions and images produced by the BJP IT cell do not even have the strength to scratch the surface of Assamese society. Assam has been nurtured by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, Azan Pir, Swargadeo Siukapha, Lachit Borphukan and Bhupen Hazarika. People with links to smuggling of cattle, coal, betel leaves, drugs will not dictate to the Assamese mind,” Gogoi said in response to the video.
“The proud and great state of Assam deserves politicians who help the people of Assam reach new heights… We want to see an Assam where hard work trumps hate, decency matters over hubris, democracy crushes autocracy, and everyone is treated with respect,” he added.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi also slammed the Assam BJP for posting the "disgusting" AI video. The Hyderabad MP in a post on 'X', alleged that the very existence of Muslims in India is a problem for the saffron party, and "their dream is a Muslim-mukt bharat".
"BJP Assam has posted a disgusting AI video that shows a Muslim-majority Assam if there was no BJP. They are not fear-mongering just for votes, this is the repulsive Hindutva ideology in true form. The very existence of Muslims in India is a problem for them, their dream is a Muslim-mukt bharat. Besides this constant whining, they’ve no vision for India," Owaisi said, referring to Assam BJP's AI video.
Assam BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami, meanwhile, came out to defend the video. “If you see the demographic change in Assam, in 14 districts, there is an alarming situation. The threat is not from Muslims, but from illegal immigrant Muslims. We have to be conscious of it. They have become economically strong, they are damaging us socially, and they will take away our political rights,” Goswami was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Assam minister Piyush Hazarika said the video highlighted the threat of illegal immigrants who are changing Assam’s demography.
The controversy over the video comes as political parties gear up for assembly elections in Assam next year.
