A man reportedly killed his 14-year-old son in Bengaluru after an argument over the boy’s mobile phone addiction and lack of focus on studies. Ravi Kumar, the father, allegedly attacked his son Tejas, a Class 9 student, with a cricket bat and slammed his head against a wall, causing severe internal injuries that proved fatal.
The incident took place in Bengaluru's Kumaraswamy Layout area, according to police. Police investigation has revealed that the father, who works as a carpenter, was extremely angry at his son over the boy's lack of interest in academics, according to a report by NDTV.
On the day of the crime, the boy had reportedly asked his father to get his phone repaired, which led to an altercation, following which the man beat his son to death. The father allegedly struck his son with a cricket bat and repeatedly hit his head against the wall until the boy lost consciousness. Not just that, the father allegedly said, “It doesn’t matter to me if you live or die.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar told PTI that there was a lot of dissatisfaction and clashes between the child and his parents over excessive use of mobile phone. Also, the parents were unhappy about him not attending school regularly and for associating with a 'bad group of friends.' The immediate cause for the assault, however, was about the mobile phone.
"The assault has caused the death of the child and it was not a simple assault. Multiple injuries were found on the back of the child and head. The father who assaulted the child has been arrested and he is in police custody," he said adding a probe was on.
The injured boy remained on the ground in severe pain for about six hours, with his condition steadily deteriorating. Investigation has revealed that medical attention was sought only after he stopped breathing, as per the NDTV report. When finally brought to the hospital, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
