After the Hyderabad police imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles in groups on streets and throwing colours to prevent disturbances and ensure public safety on Holi, BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla said the Telangana Congress government’s "anti-Hindu agenda" was out in the open again.
“Now, they are restricting Holi celebrations in Telangana. Hindus are being told how to celebrate their festival!" he said on X.
.The order, issued by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, will be in force from 6 pm on March 13 to 6 am on March 15.
The Commissioner said wine shops, toddy shops and bars attached to restaurants, excluding those attached to star hotels and clubs (excluding bars in star hotels and registered clubs) in the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, would be closed on the day of the festival.
Any violation of the order will result in prosecution under Section 76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act, 1348 Fasli, according to The Hindu.
In a separate order, Cyberabad police commissioner also directed the closure of wine and toddy shops, as well as bars attached to restaurants, from 6 am to 6 pm on March 14 under Section 20 of the Telangana State Excise Act, 1968.
However, bars in star hotels and registered clubs will be exempt from the closure. The measures have been taken to ensure public peace and prevent disturbances during the festival.
