A family trip to Ranthambore temple in Rajasthan turned in a tragedy after a tiger mauled a 7-year-old boy who had gone there to pray to the presiding deity. According to an NDTV report, the boy has been identified as one Kartik Suman.

The family had travelled from Bundi district to pray at the temple located in the national park. The report added that the forest department was able to retrieve the body after being dragged by the predator deep in the jungle.

After the standard procedure of conducting a post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.

An eyewitness quoted by NDTV said that the incident took place while the family was returning from the temple. Shortly after they posed for a family photo, a tiger came from nowhere and attacked the child from behind.

The predator grabbed the boy from his neck and dragged him inside the jungle. At the time of the incident, Suman was holding his grandmother’s hand when the tiger took him away.

The NDTV report added that recently, three female tigers were spotted in the area. Ranthambore National park boasts a health tiger population. Recent government data shows that there are around 70 big cats in the area.
