The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched an attack at Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi after he did not attend the swearing-in ceremony of CP Radhakrishnan.

Radhakrishnan was on Friday sworn in as the 15th vice president of India.

President Droupadi Murmu administered oath to the 67-year-old Radhakrishnan at a brief ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former vice presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar and Venkaiah Naidu, former President Ram Nath Kovind, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, among others, were present at the swearing-in ceremony that took place in Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The BJP hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his absence, saying the Congress leader is dangerous for India’s democracy.

“Rahul Gandhi hates Indian Constitution! Rahul Gandhi hates Indian democracy!” said BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari on X.

“Rahul Gandhi boycotts official Vice President Swearing in ceremony! Few days back he had boycotted celebration of India's independence at Red Fort! Can a man who despises India's Independence day, swearing in of Constitutional dignitary be fit to be in public life?” he asked.

Referring to the leader of Opposition’s foreign visits, Bhandari stated: “Rahul Gandhi has time to go to holiday in Malaysia, but not official constitutional function! Rahul Gandhi is dangerous for India's democracy! Rahul Gandhi Opposes Indian State!”

Radhakrishanan won the vice presidential election on Tuesday, defeating the joint opposition nominee B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

The election was necessitated due to the sudden resignation of the then incumbent, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on July 21 over health issues.
