The Best Original Score category at the 77th British Academy Film Awards on Sunday (February 18) at London’s Royal Festival Hall, went to Ludwig Göransson for Oppenheimer.
There were four other nominees who were equally brilliant, and included Anthony Willis for Saltburn, pop musician Jerskin Fendrix for Poor Things, Daniel Pemberton for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and late Robbie Robertson for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Göransson (Ludwig Emil Tomas Göransson) seems to be the hot favourite to win at the upcoming Oscars for the same category, now that he has bagged the second of this year’s biggest global film awards aka the BAFTA.
Earlier this year, the Swedish composer, conductor and songwriter won the Best Original Score category at the Golden Globe, now the BAFTA and the 96th Academy Awards or the Oscar to be held on March 11, seems to be his next. The 39 year old has won many Grammy Awards, including one earlier this year for Oppenheimer for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.
In the three-hour long film that tells the story of nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer the orchestral and digital infused score by Göransson has been appreciated by fans and critics alike. He has used bass, and the violin to showcase the personality of the nuclear physicist. The talented music composer has connected the film’s audience with not just the character’s nuances, but also kept in mind the intense political scenarios in the film. His score has woven in the beautiful moments as well as the sombre scenes with the violin vibrato.
Apart from this, Chirstopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer bagged six BAFTAs in other categories including Best Director (Christopher Nolan); Best Film; Best Leading Actor (Cillian Murphy); Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
