...Presentation...
In the second and concluding session, Ireland counterattacked and tried to cut the deficit pretty quickly but Bangladesh stuck with their spinners to finish the proceedings. Ireland showed a tremendous fight in the second innings. They'll look to learn from it and replicate a similar performance in the second match and put in an even contest.
Against the odds and a formidable 301-run deficit, Ireland staged a fightback in the opening session of Day 4, led by Andrew Balbirnie and Andy McBrine. McBrine was superb, reaching his fifth Test half-century to anchor the innings and prevent a collapse. Despite the favourable turning conditions for Bangladesh's bowlers, the hosts struggled with the DRS, having four dismissal attempts denied. However, the visitors were a bit lucky on a couple of occasions. Ireland scored a crucial 107 runs in the session.
Ireland shuffled their deck in the third innings, sending out Cade Carmichael alongside Paul Stirling due to an injury to Andy Balbirnie. But the massive 301-run mountain proved too high to climb, as Carmichael, the debutant, fell quickly for just 5. Stirling and Harry Tector briefly showed resilience, adding 47 runs, but a moment of brilliance from Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto changed everything where he ran out Stirling directly from first slip! That dismissal triggered a painful collapse for the tourists. The wickets began to tumble in clusters, and by the close of play on Day 3, Bangladesh had seized complete control, reducing Ireland to a desperate 85 for five.
In response, Bangladesh didn't just bat, they built a fortress. The tone was set by a relentless 168-run opening partnership between Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam. After Shadman fell for 80, Mahmudul went on to register a colossal 171. He wasn't alone, though. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a century, and Mominul Haque added a fluent 82. This incredible collective effort marked a first for Bangladesh where all four top-order batters crossed the 50-run mark. With a quick fifty from Litton Das and contributions from the lower order pushing the total past 587/8, Shanto declared the innings, securing a formidable 301-run lead.
In the first innings, Ireland were all out for 286. It was a tough start for the tourists, who had chosen to bat first and immediately lost their skipper Andy Balbirnie for a duck. Though a solid 96-run stand between Paul Stirling and Cade Carmichael steadied the ship, and the middle order chipped in, the innings ultimately belonged to the hosts' spin and seam attack. Mehidy Hasan Miraz led the charge with three wickets, ably supported by two each from Taijul Islam, Hasan Murad, and Hasan Mahmud.
Ireland's performance on Day 4 was indeed fantastic, but Bangladesh's dominating play ultimately sealed the game for them. The hosts' spinners were on top right throughout the game. However, Andy McBrine's resolute fifty and quick cameos from Jordan Neill and Barry McCarthy pushed the inevitable from Bangladesh a bit further. Bangladesh take the lead in the 2-match Test series. Let's recap how the game unfolded.

... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...
Bangladesh will be touch disappointed with how unlucky they were but looking at the overall picture, they are still way ahead in the game. We are all set. The Bangladeshi players are out in the middle. Matthew Humphreys and Andy McBrine are the overnight batters. Ireland still trail by 215 runs at the start of Day 4. Spin to start the proceedings. Here is Taijul Islam with a slip, gully and a silly point in place.
Mushtaq Ahmed, Bangladesh spin bowling coach is up for a quick chat. He says basics are very important, and even the pace needs to be perfect on a surface like this. Tells cricket is all about angle games, feels they need to change the angle around the crease to destroy the batter's alignment. Appreciates Hasan Murad's performance and feels he has a strong temperament.
This match is perfectly poised for an early finish, with the pitch offering significant assistance to the spin bowlers. Bangladesh is just five wickets away from securing a 1-0 lead in this two-Test series, and their fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be a short and exciting morning session. The question now is, can Ireland's remaining batters show the resilience needed to survive, or will Bangladesh seal a swift victory? Stay tuned.
Bangladesh's bowlers, particularly the spinners, have turned up the heat on the Irish batters in the second innings. The double strike from Hasan Murad just before stumps on Day 3 highlighted the difficulties Ireland's batters face on a deteriorating pitch. With five wickets already down and a massive deficit to clear, the visitors have a monumental task ahead of them.
Welcome to Day 4 of the riveting Test match between Bangladesh and Ireland! The action has been overwhelmingly dominated by the hosts, who have put on a commanding display over the first three days. The magnificent first innings declaration by Bangladesh, spearheaded by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto's fantastic century and a solid half-century from Litton Das, set a huge target and built an intimidating lead.
...Day 4, Session 1...
However, Bangladesh declared once they crossed the 300-mark lead. The pressure was on Ireland to see out a full session. Paul Stirling found a new partner to open in Cade Carmichael but the latter failed to impress in his second outing. Stirling and Harry Tector stitched in a brisk partnership with the former acting as the aggressor but a moment of brilliance from Najmul Hossain Shanto was Paul Stirling run out, which opened the floodgates. Bangladesh were relentless and hungry for wickets after that, picking up five wickets. The spinners are getting a good degree of turns, and it will take a miracle for Ireland to get past Day 4. Join us fpr what could be the concluding day of this game. The action starts at 3.30 am GMT. You can join us earlier for the build up. Cheers!
The action continued relentlessly after lunch, with Bangladesh refusing to lift their foot off the gas. The Irish bowlers toiled hard, with Matthew Humphreys managing to pick up four wickets, though at the cost of plenty of runs. As the Tea break arrived, Bangladesh's monumental lead was nearing the 300-run mark. Given their aggressive approach right up to the interval, it seemed certain the 'leather hunt' would resume immediately after tea, with the declaration nowhere in sight.
So, the morning session was a mixed bag for Bangladesh, yet they remained firmly in control. Overnight centurion Mahmudul Hasan Joy was the first to fall, dismissed by Barry McCarthy for a magnificent 171. McCarthy struck again soon after, ending Mominul Haque's solid innings at 82. However, Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto anchored the innings beautifully, cruising to a quick half-century. He found a partner in Mushfiqur Rahim, but Rahim's contribution ended at 23. By the time the session closed, Litton Das had settled in, and critically, Bangladesh's overall lead had swelled to 161 runs, a significant cushion on a pitch starting to offer turn for the bowlers.
Day 3 is usually called the Moving Day and it has moved at a rapid pace. What a day for the hosts. They continue to dominate the proceedings and at this rat,e they will be keen to conclude the game tomorrow on Day 4 as Ireland have lost half of their side while still trailing by 215 runs.
