Right then, that brings this nailbiting game to a close, with Australia Women delivering another solid performance to go 4 up on the points in this edition of the Women's Ashes. The focus now shifts to the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, where the all-important third ODI will take place on January 17, 2025, at 11.05 pm GMT (the previous day). As always, the buildup to the game will start well in advance, so make sure to tune in early. Until then, it’s cheers and goodbye!

Alyssa Healy, the captain of Australia Women is up for a chat now. She says that it was a tremendous game of cricket. Appreciates the bowlers by saying it was a serious effort from every one of them. Also mentions that this is one of the most remarkable wins she has been a part of. States that there was enough in the wicket for the whole day and their bowlers created pressure and held on the chances that came their way. Ends by saying that they need to put up a more complete team performance at Hobart in the final ODI.

Heather Knight, the skipper of England Women is in for a chat. She says the game was there for the taking but the fall of wickets in heaps cost them the game. Adds that they fought brilliantly to make a comeback into this game but are disappointed with the result not going their way. Mentions how well Amy Jones played and says that with No Balls and bowlers being changed, it got tough for her to keep her calm. Concludes that they need to be braver with the bat and fix a few things going ahead.

Alana King is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her outstanding bowling. She says that it was a well-fought win for them, and adds a great performance overall from the girls. Mentions that there was a lot of turn on the surface and they just had to get their lines and lengths right. Ends by saying that she is delighted that they go up 4-0 in this Ashes series and is happy to contribute in the team's success.

It's time for the Presentation Ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Australia Women got off to a strong start, laying the groundwork for a big total. Alyssa Healy looked fluent at the top, while Ellyse Perry was at her imperious best, guiding Australia to a solid 131/2 after 20 odd overs. However, what followed was a collapse no one saw coming. Alice Capsey triggered the downfall by dismissing Beth Mooney, sparking a procession of wickets. Sophie Ecclestone wreaked havoc with a sensational four-wicket haul, while Capsey chipped in with three crucial breakthroughs. The duo dismantled the middle and lower order, restricting Australia to a modest 180 runs in under 45 overs.

With no partners left to support her, Amy Jones was forced to deny singles toward the end, trying to shield the strike and protect the tail. However, this cautious approach proved to be a costly gamble as the required rate climbed sharply. Australia capitalized on the pressure, delivering precise and disciplined bowling that eventually earned them the final wicket to seal the game. With this victory, Australia Women maintains their dominance in ODIs, securing yet another series win. More significantly, they extend their lead to 4 points in this multi-format series, putting England under immense pressure heading into the next fixtures.

Amy Jones and Alice Capsey dug in for a gritty partnership, resisting the pressure applied by Australia’s in-form spinners. Slowly but steadily, they pieced together a crucial 36-run stand for the 6th wicket, helping England navigate into calmer waters. However, the reintroduction of Kim Garth into the attack reignited the drama. First, an on-field decision against Capsey was overturned, and moments later, Phoebe Litchfield dropped a crucial catch off Amy Jones, giving England a lifeline. Garth, however, remained relentless and eventually broke the resilient partnership, dismissing Capsey. Alana King then struck twice in quick succession, tilting the game back in Australia's favour and setting up a tense finish.

Despite the early blows, Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight managed to weather the storm, building a steady rebuilding partnership. However, the introduction of spin turned the tide once again. Ash Gardner broke the stand by dismissing Knight, and Alana King capitalized on the opening, claiming two quick wickets to further tighten Australia's grip. England found themselves in deep trouble at 84/5 in just under 23 overs, with the game slipping away.

Defending a modest total, Australia Women came out firing, with their pacers delivering relentlessly from the outset. Kim Garth struck twice within the first six overs, removing both openers and putting the hosts firmly in control. Under intense pressure, Natalie Sciver-Brunt struggled to settle, while Australia created numerous half-chances and beat the bat consistently.

AUSTRALIA WIN BY 21 RUNS! What a dramatic finish to a thrilling contest as this nail-biter finally comes to a close, easing the tension and racing heartbeats. Australia Women held their nerve in crunch moments, handing England Women another defeat to win the second ODI to go 4 nil up on the points. England came tantalizingly close but couldn’t capitalize when it mattered most, as Australia seized the critical moments to seal the win. Despite the loss, England Women still have everything to fight for in the third game, with crucial points on the line in this multi-format competition.

48.1OUT! KNOCKED HER OVER! AUSTRALIA WOMEN COME FROM THE BRINK OF DEFEAT AND WIN A THRILLER! Couldn't be a more perfect ball to a tailender, and this one had Bell's name on it! Megan Schutt steams in full tilt and spears in a pinpoint yorker, right at the base of the middle stump. Lauren Bell is late to bring her bat down in time and the ball beats the bat to crash into the stumps!

47.6IN THE AIR...DROPPED! Surprisingly, Jones doesn't run off the Free Hit! This is banged in short by McGrath, Jones pulls it aerially to deep square leg where it's dropped by Alana King. It wouldn't have counted even if she had pouched it. But more importantly, Jones doesn't rotate the strike and exposes Bell to face the next over. Everyone was concentrating on the catch and maybe, Jones felt, the game was done, totally forgetting the Free Hit. Hence she did not run.

Oh dear! Annabel Sutherland has been taken out of the attack and it will be Tahlia McGrath to bowl that last ball which is also a Free Hit.

47.6DRAMA! Sutherland fires it over the waist height again and on the body, Amy Jones is deep inside the crease, but walks a few steps ahead and nudges it off the inside half of the bat to deep backward square leg. Lauren Bell is already more than halfway through but Jones sends her back. Bell turns around and scoots to get back to the bowler's end. Does well to reach home. Annabel Sutherland and Alyssa Healy are visibly not happy with the decision by the on-field umpire! And now, the umpire requests Sutherland to go out of attack for bowling two waist-height No Balls in an over. A NO BALL CALLED AND FREE HIT COMING UP...

47.5Sutherland follows the batter as Jones shuffles way outside off and digs it short into the surface. Jones goes for a heavy across and hits it to deep square leg but doesn't take the run.

47.5FIVE NO BALL! Can it get more dramatic than this? A huge error from Sutherland and Jones pounces on it! A waist height NO BALL on the pads, Amy Jones shuffles across and uses the ball's pace and hits it over the short fine fielder for a boundary. FREE HIT COMING UP! The field cannot be changed for this!

47.4PLAY AND A MISS! Fired full and outside off, Jones swings and misses on the outside edge.

47.3PUT DOWN! An incredibly difficult chance, but it nearly stuck in her hands! A full ball again on off, Amy Jones smashes it hard and straight back to the bowler. Annabel Sutherland bends low on her follow-through and tries to take the catch by stretching both her hands over her head. The ball hits and pops out of the palms and lobs near the strip.

47.2A cracking shot down the ground, but a dot in the end! A full one, on the stumps, on middle and leg, Jones clears her front foot and drills it down to long on.

47.1Seeing Amy Jones covering her stumps, Annabel Sutherland cannons in a yorker on the legs, Amy Jones flicks it to the leg side but doesn't run.

England Women need 28 runs off the last 18 balls and Australia Women need a wicket. Annabel Sutherland (5-0-24-0) returns to the attack.

46.6Well played by Bell! Straight and full, on middle, Lauren Bell prods forward and presents a solid front foot defence. A single run from this over. More importantly, Amy Jones will take the strike in the next over.

46.5On a length, with an extra bit of bounce, outside off, Lauren Bell is taken aback by the bounce, hangs her bat away from the body and just fends it in front of backward point.

46.4Almost an action-replay of the previous delivery! Megan Schutt fires in a yorker on the stumps, tailing a bit in as well. Lauren Bell again bends low and gets her bat down in time to block it out.

46.3Well blocked by Bell! An attempted yorker on the stumps, Lauren Bell bends low and digs it out safely.

46.2NERVY! Just around off, nipping away from a fuller length, Lauren Bell pushes hard at it and misses on the outside edge.

46.1IN THE AIR...land safe! Runs a single on the first ball! Outside off on a fuller length, Amy Jones creates some room for herself and slices it over backward point for a quick single. Good work by Alana King as she motors to her left and keeps it to just a single.

45.6An arm ball, fired on the pads on a length. Lauren Bell missed to glance and got pinged on the thigh pad. England Women need 29 more runs off 24 balls while Australia Women need just 1 wicket.

45.5Nice and full, darted outside off, Lauren Bell leans on a defends it out.

45.4Full and just outside off, Bell gets forward to defend and gets an outside edge rolling to short third. No run.

45.3She does well! Full and outside off, kept out safely.

45.2HUGE SWING AND A MISS! Fired in full and outside off, Bell takes her front foot out and swings but misses on the outside edge.

45.1Play and a miss! Length ball, skidding through quickly outside off, Bell goes back and across to punch to the off side but misses.

44.6No, she cannot! Well bowled, very well bowled by Schutt! She bowls it according to the field and angles on the pads, Amy Jones can only nudge it with soft hands to short fine. Lauren Bell will take the strike in the next over!

44.5In the gap but doesn't take the single off the penultimate ball! Length ball, outside off, Amy Jones backs away and cuts it hard to deep point. Can she rotate the strike in the next ball to retain it for the next over?

44.4Nicely played! Just around off on a fuller length, Lauren Bell opens the bat face and guides off the thick outside edge to deep third for a single.

44.3Dot again! Pitches it well outside off on a length, Lauren Bell tries to slash away to the off side but misses.

44.2At the stumps from Schutt, on a fuller length, Lauren Bell does well again to push it back to the bowler.

44.1Lands it full and on middle, Lauren Bell blocks it forward.

43.6Manages to keep it to a dot! Fires it in, very full and outside off, Amy Jones miscues her shot, straight back at the bowler. Lauren Bell will face the start of the next over. England Women need 30 more runs off 36 balls.

43.5Tossed up, on middle, Amy Jones charges down the track and whips it to long on but does not take the run.

43.4JUST IN! Just around off, on a fuller length, Amy Jones drags this through square leg and calls for two instantly. However, Lauren Bell is a bit slow to scamper back for the second and reach at the bowler's end. Sensing this, the fielder from the deep throws flat towards the bowler's end where Gardner collects it on the bounce and takes off the bails. The side-on replay shows that Bell had made her ground by just dragging the bat into the crease. Two runs taken!

43.3Full and drifting across, Jones tries to sweep but she only manage a bottom edge onto the pads.

43.2Jones now slog sweeps this full ball to deep mid-wicket, but doesn't run.

43.1Short of a good length, on the stumps, Amy Jones quickly goes deep inside the crease and pulls it along the ground to deep mid-wicket. Ellyse Perry scoots to her right and puts in a dive to intercept the ball. However, her feet get very close to the ropes while tumbling over, but she just about manages to keep them inside the field of play. That was hit too hard and Ellyse Perry does extremely well and saves a certain boundary. Two taken!

Ash Gardner is back on.

42.6Takes a single and retains the strike for the next over does Jones! Full and floating on the pads, Amy Jones clips it to deep square leg for a single. England Women need 34 runs in 42 balls with just 1 wicket in hand.

42.5Nice and hurled fuller on middle, Amy Jones keeps it out on the front foot.

Lauren Bell is the last remaining batter in for England Women.

42.4OUT! RUN OUT! What just happened there? A waste of a wicket at the worst possible time for England Women! Megan Schutt serves a full toss at the stumps and Amy Jones shuffles long way across to paddle it behind. She mistimes it off the splice and the ball goes over the keeper to the left of the fielder at short third. Darcie Brown throws herself over the ball and makes a stop. Lauren Filer sets off for the single while Amy Jones is not even looking back at her and is in her crease at the batting end. Brown darts the ball to the keeper Alyssa Healy who with her smart presence of mind then throws back the ball to the bowler Schutt who breaks the bails with Lauren Filer well short of her crease trying to scamper back.

42.3Short of a good length, over off, Amy Jones backs away and cuts it to deep point. Denies the run yet again.

42.2Full, at the stumps, Amy Jones makes some room and whips it hard but straight to cover. Two dots on the trot!

42.1Very full, on off, Amy Jones looks to go down town and gets an outside edge that lobs to the left of cover. The batters don't take the run.

Megan Schutt to continue. She is 6-0-24-0 so far.

41.6Good length, on middle, Amy Jones tucks it through mid-wicket and gets a single to retain the strike for the next over. Kim Garth finishes her impactful quota of bowling. She finishes with brilliant figures of 10-0-37-3.

41.5SIX! BANG! Superb strike! Full and around off, Amy Jones steps out and pumps it over mid off for a biggie.

41.4That would've been a blinder had Alyssa Healy caught that! Full and outside off, Lauren Filer throws her hands at it and gets a thick outside edge to the right of the keeper. Healy puts on her cape and flies to her right to get a hand to it but it doesn't stick. The batters cross.

41.3Length, on middle and off, Amy Jones powers her stroke hard, but finds the fielder at long on for a single.

41.2Very full, at the stumps, Lauren Filer stays leg side of the ball and steers it to deep third for a single.

41.1A single on the very first ball! On a length, on the pads, Amy Jones flicks it a bit too well to deep mid-wicket. She looks for the second but there isn't a chance.

40.6A tremendous over from Schutt. Concedes just a single from it. Length, just outside off, Lauren Filer just sticks her bat out and guides the ball to deep third. No run taken. England Women need 46 more runs off 54 balls now.

40.5On a good length, at the stumps, Lauren Filer covers the line and does well to block it.

40.4Much fuller, almost a yorker that was bowled slower, Amy Jones tucks it to the leg side and gets a single this time.

40.3Full, just outside off, Amy Jones knocks it down to long on but still doesn't take the run.

40.2Full and wide outside off, Amy Jones punches it to cover.

40.1Full and outside off, Amy Jones thumps it to deep cover but doesn't take the run.

Megan Schutt is brought back into the attack now!

39.6An attempted yorker, on middle, Lauren Filer does well to dig it out to mid on. 8 runs from this over and England Women now need 47 off 60 balls remaining. Australia Women need just two good deliveries to win!

39.5Good length and at the stumps. Filer defends it to backward point.

39.4FOUR LEG BYES! A dramatic over! Under 50 runs required now! Kim Garth fires it in on the legs, Lauren Filer misses to get any bat on it and it deflects off the pads before racing away to the deep fine fence.

39.3Outside off on a length, Filer plays and misses!

39.2EDGED AND FOUR! England will take it whatsoever! This is cannoned in by Garth, Lauren Filer swings hard and gets a thick outside edge and the ball goes between Healy's legs to race away into the fence.

39.1Skids through, outside off on a length, Lauren Filer leaves it alone.

38.6A game-changing over from King! Takes a double whammy and just concedes a single! Short and on middle and leg, pulled away by Jones but straight to mid-wicket. England Women still require 56 runs to win from 66 balls remaining.

38.5DROPPED by Kim Garth! Tossed up, right at the stumps, Lauren Filer drills it straight to Garth at short mid on who tries to take it above her face with both hands but the brute force allows the ball to burst through her hands and go behind. The batters take a single. A lot happening in this over!

38.4Full and turning away, from just outside off, Lauren Filer is beaten again.

38.3Oh dear, there couldn't have been a better ball to try for a Hat-Trick. king lands it on a fuller length, on middle and leg and turns away a long way to square up Filer and beat her bat on the outside edge. Zips past the off-stump as well.

Lauren Filer walks in next and will face the Hat-Trick ball.

38.2OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! KING HAS TURNED THIS GAME ON ITS HEAD! She keeps the line of attack around off and gets some turn away from the batter, on a length. Sophie Ecclestone goes deep inside the crease and looks to cut it away but she is a bit too late to execute that shot and it takes the thick outside edge of the bat and goes behind. Alyssa Healy shows sharp reflexes, reacts quickly to it, and takes it sharply into her safe mitts, low to her right. Sophie Ecclestone departs on a golden duck and ALANA KING IS ON A HAT-TRICK! Australia need just two more wickets to win now!

Sophie Ecclestone walks in to bat at number 9 for England Women.

38.1OUT! TAKEN! What was Dean trying to do there? Just spoons up the simplest of catches to Beth Mooney! King pitches it on the middle stump line, and keeps the length fuller, getting a bit of extra bounce as well on it. Dean pre-meditates and shuffles across to play the scoop shot. But as the ball gets an extra bit of bounce, she doesn't connect anywhere near the middle and it lobs off the higher part of the bat and goes over the keeper's head. Beth Mooney from the first slip shows good game awareness as she moves to her left swiftly and takes a simple catch just behind Alyssa Healy, the keeper. England Women are 7 wickets down now and this is getting really nervy out there now! The Aussies are pumped up to the bits and rightly so!

37.6Absolutely bang on! Four dots on the bounce to end the over! Just around off on the fourth stump, Amy Jones hits it on the up but straight to cover. England Women need 56 runs in 72 balls, with 4 wickets to spare.

36.1Nice and full, on the stumps, blocked off well.

35.1OUT! TRAPPED IN FRONT! A loud confident appeal in unison by the Aussies and the finger is raised up this time! Alice Capsey walks to her partner and after a brief chat, she reviews it with just one second left on the timer. This is bowled on a hard length from over the stumps by Garth. It lands, stays low a tad bit, and nips back sharply into the right-hander. Alice Capsey gets half-forward and is a bit tentative to push it forward. Ends up playing all over the line as the ball passes close to the inside edge to hit her on the front pad. UltraEdge shows nothing and Ball Tracking finds Capsey in trouble with three reds. Australia Women get a very crucial wicket at a very crucial juncture as England lose their 6th wicket. 34.1Flighted delivery around off. Jones prods forward and defends it to cover.

Drinks! Wow, that last over was exactly what Australia needed to go their way, but Phoebe Litchfield’s dropped catch could prove to be a turning point. When defending small scores, every opportunity counts, and Australia has now let a couple of chances slip through their fingers in the past few overs. These missed opportunities might just come back to haunt them! Australia will need to regroup quickly and stay focused, as every ball now feels like a pivotal moment. Chances are bound to come again, and they must capitalize. Meanwhile, England Women, having done the hard work in this partnership, must take the chase deeper and avoid losing a wicket here, which could shift the pressure right back onto them.

33.6OH, DROPPED! Ash Gardner shells an easy chance and Amy Jones survives! This is bowled fairly outside off on a fuller length from Garth, it lands and nips away slightly from the right-hander. Amy Jones leans on the ball and tries to force the drive through the cover-point region but doesn't quite manage to keep it along the ground. Ends up hitting it parallel to the ground, in the air and straight to backward point. The ball dips ahead of Ash Gardner who bends low to take the catch, but doesn't hold onto it as her knees almost collide with each other and she loses her balance. Hence, the ball goes in and out of her palms to roll to the cover region. A single taken!

33.5Too full and straight, Amy Jones cracks the drive straight but Kim Garth bends low and intercepts the ball.

33.4A bit of width, outside off, on a length, Alice Capsey works it through covers for a single.
