Mumbai, Oct 21 (PTI) The Northern Railway today flagged off a double-decker container train between Patli near Gurgaon in Haryana and the Mundra Port in Gujarat, to increase efficiency and volume. The Railways first tried the double-stack container train service in 2006, which was 22 years after the idea was introduced in the West in 1984, a statement from the Northern Railway said. This is the first double-stack container train by the Northern Railway and the second route over the Railways. This service will bring the entire National Capital Region of Delhi on the double-stack container circuit, running 9''6" high double stack containers that can carry more load. The National Capital Region handles over a million containers per annum. The first double-stack container train was run on March 23, 2006 between Jaipur and the Pipavav Port in Gujarat, a distance of 950 km. PTI BEN NP
