The Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday appointed Uday Bhanu Chib as the new chief of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC).

Chib, who has been serving as the IYC’s general secretary, previously led the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress.

Chib also played a role in shaping the Congress's manifesto for the J&K elections as a member of the manifesto committee.

“Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Shri Uday Bhanu Chib, currently General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress and former President of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress, as the President of the Indian Youth Congress, with immediate effect,” Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement.

“The upcoming Assembly elections represent a critical juncture for the future of J&K. It is imperative that the youth actively participate and contribute to shaping the direction of our state,” Chib had said during party's strategy meet for youths in J&K.
