SpiceJet on January 10 announced that it will unground 10 aircraft by the middle of April 2025. The aircraft will include four Boeing 737 MAX planes and will increase the airline's current fleet size of 28 planes, said the low-budget carrier in a statement on January 10.
These aircraft are in addition to the 10 planes that the budget carrier added to its fleet since October 2024. The earlier additions consisted of three previously grounded aircraft, which were brought back into service and seven planes that were inducted on lease.
"Over the past three months, SpiceJet's network expansion strategy has resulted in the addition of more than 60 new flights, further enhancing connectivity and service options for its passengers," the airline said.
Commenting on the latest announcement, SpiceJet Chairman and MD Ajay Singh said, "Our plan to bring 10 aircraft back into service by mid-April is a reflection of SpiceJet's unwavering commitment to its growth and operational excellence. SpiceJet is on a strong path to recovery and growth, and we remain focused on providing reliable and affordable air travel to millions of Indians."
Notably, SpiceJet in December had signed an agreement with US-based engine MRO, StandardAero Inc, for the restoration of its grounded MAX fleet. The airline has been on track of recovery, settling long standing dues and disputes with several of its lessors.
Shares of the airline dropped nearly 2% on January 10 to trade at around Rs 51.64 apiece. The shares have so far dropped over 20% in the last one year.
