Software giant Microsoft's India arm, Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd, has bought a 16.4- acre land parcel in Pune's western tech-heavy Hinjawadi suburb, according to documents accessed by Square Yards, paying a consideration of around Rs 520 crore for the transaction. The seller has been identified as Indo Global Infotech City LLP, according to the documents.
This is Microsoft India's second major land purchase in Pune, having earlier purchased a 25-acre plot for Rs 328 crore in Pune's satellite city of Pimpri-Chinchwad from Finolex Industries in 2022, on which it is constructing a data centre.
Moneycontrol has approached Microsoft for comment on what it plans to do on the newly-acquired Hinjawadi land parcel, and the copy will be updated when the company provides a response.
Hinjawadi is home to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, the predominant IT services and global capability centres hub in Pune, and houses facilities of various technology and manufacturing giants.
Earlier this year, Microsoft India purchased a 48-acre land parcel in Hyderabad for Rs 267 crore, in order to expand its data centre presence in India. As a data "hyperscaler", Microsoft, along with Google and Amazon Web Services, are slated to play a key role in the future for localisation of data, using data centres located in India.
Besides operational and planned data centres, Microsoft employs around 23,000 people across in development centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Noida.
