Banks in multiple cities will remain closed on Monday, August 19 to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The day is observed across the country to mark a special bond where sisters put tilak on their brother's forehead before tying a sacred thread on their wrist, called Rakhi.
Both public and private sector banks will remain shut in cities that will observe holiday on Monday, as per bank holiday calendar list published annually by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI),
However, the customers should take note that while the physical banking services will remain closed on Thursday, the digital banking services including internet banking, mobile banking, WhatsApp banking, NEFT, and RTGS will continue to function as usual.
The holiday list published by the RBI differs from state to state and customers should check the holiday list before planning a visit to the bank branch.
