Railways aims to introduce 400 energy-efficient Vande Bharat Express trains soon of which 44 have already been contracted for manufacture with improved suspension.

The procurement of propulsion of 58 more Vande Bharat trains is under way, according to the railways ministry.
Also, a modern coach factory in Rae Bareli - one of the four rail coach production units of railways - has signed a transfer of technology contract with Dawonsys, South Korea for design, development, manufacturing and testing of aluminium-body passenger coaches.
At present, around 750 pairs of mail/express trains are being operated with integral coach factory rakes.
As part of the government's Swachh Bharat mission, railways has completed installation of bio-toilets on all its mainline passenger coaching stock so that no waste is discharged from coaches onto tracks. Bio-toilet with vacuum flushing system has also been developed and is being retrofitted in coaches.
Around 1,450 coaches have been fitted with bio-toilets having vacuum flushing systems.
