Jindal Steel has commissioned one of India’s largest blast furnaces at its Angul plant, doubling its hot metal capacity from 4 MTPA to 9 MTPA and setting the stage for a total capacity of 12 MTPA.
The newly launched Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace - II, with a useful volume of 5,499 m², establishes Angul as the largest single-location steel facility in the country. The ceremonial “blow-in” was led by Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel, who described the commissioning as a “proud moment for Jindal Steel and for India.” He added that the project strengthens global competitiveness while advancing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The company said the Angul expansion is central to its growth strategy, supported by upcoming projects including a dedicated port at Paradeep, a slurry pipeline, a coal pipe conveyor, the Shreebhoomi Power Plant, and new coke oven facilities. Together, these are expected to make Angul the cornerstone of Jindal Steel’s global ambitions.
