Sensex, Nifty gain 0.7% this week

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 19,007.53, up 147.09 points or 0.78% and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 41.95 points or 0.74% to settle at 5,696.50.

Equity benchmarks closed the week on a positive note, after trading in a tight range of 5650-5750 on Nifty. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 19,007.53, up 147.09 points or 0.78% and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 41.95 points or 0.74% to settle at 5,696.50.


The BSE Bankex was up 4.2%. IT Index was up 3% and Metal up 2.2%. However, Oil & Gas Index was down 2.3% and Capital Goods Index down 2.1%.


Among frontliners, Reliance Infrastructure, GAIL and ONGC slipped 6.4-7.5%. Reliance Capital, L&T, Hero Honda, DLF, Bharti and Reliance Industries fell 1.5-4.2%.


However, TCS, Axis Bank and HCL Tech rallied 6-8%. ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto, SBI, M&M, Kotak Mahindra Bank and SAIL were up 3.8-5.5%.


The Nifty Junior was up 1% while BSE Small-cap Index fell 0.5%.

In midcap space, LIC Housing Finance surged 22%, Orchid Chemical was up 12.5% and Bank Of India up 10.5%. Dena Bank, Indiabulls Financial and Indiabulls Real rallied 5-8.5%.
 
However, HCC was down 8% and GVK Power down 6%. Praj slipped 2.7%.
 
In smallcap space, Shree Ashtavinyak shot up 30% and Lloyds Steel was up 21%.
