On its 29 foundation day in India on Tuesday, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that since its establishment on May 6, 1996, the South Korean automaker has sold over 1.27 crore vehicles domestically and exported more than 37 lakh units to over 150 countries worldwide.

The company says it has invested approximately US $6 billion in India since its inception, and allocated an additional Rs 1,500 crore towards upgrading and modernizing its Chennai manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu—which remains the company's first integrated car manufacturing plant outside South Korea.

Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, said, "Envisioning India at the heart of global manufacturing and commerce, Hyundai began its journey with the country 29 years ago with a vision of mutual progress. Today, we take immense pride in how far we have come - not just providing smart mobility solutions, but a future that reflects innovation, sustainability and a deep connection with our customers."

With its new manufacturing facility scheduled to commence operations in the Q4 of 2025 in Talegaon, Maharashtra, HMIL is preparing to expand its production capacity. Along with this, HMIL aims to achieve a cumulative annual production capacity of 1 million units, further strengthening its position as a manufacturing hub.

The company informed that its Indian entity contributed 18.5 percent to the global sales of Hyundai Motor Company in 2024 and ranked among the top three global contributors to the sales figures of the South Korean parent company.

Beyond manufacturing, the company said that it has invested Rs 400 crore over the past five years through the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) in various community initiatives organized under the pillars of Earth, Mobility, and Hope. It stated that these corporate social responsibility efforts have positively impacted over 20 lakh lives annually and generated income benefits worth over Rs 40 crore for local communities.
