Twenty hydro power projects are pending environmental clearance, the government informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
12 of the projects are in Arunachal Pradesh, three in Himachal Pradesh, two in Jammu and Kashmir and one each in Karnataka, Sikkim and Uttarakhand, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said in reply to a question.
The "government is appraising 20 hydro power projects in consideration of grant of environment clearance to these projects," he said, adding they are accorded clearance within the stipulated time frame after receiving requisite documents.
The total capacity of proposed projects in Arunachal is over 9000 MW, while it is over 425 MW in Himachal, 1220 in J&K, 200 MW in Karnataka, 110 MW in Sikkim and 108 MW in Uttarakhand.
