Will try to achieve 600 million tonne production target by FY18: Coal India

India's coal plants are running at 3-year high capacity as hydro and nuclear output falls. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Gopal Singh, CMD of Coal India spoke at length about the same.

Singh said September has been a very good month for the company. Demand from coal-based power plants has gone up, he added.

We are sitting on coal inventory of 34 million tonne currently, he said.

He further said that company's output for September is at 12 percent and dispatches at 17 percent.

Talking about pricing trend, he said they will take a call on pricing at an appropriate time.

Premium on e-auction till August is at 29 percent, he added.

On wage front, he said negotiations with regards to wage settlement are in the final round.

Coal India is looking to diversify more as a mining company rather than a coal extraction company, said Singh.

"Our capex this year, we have set a target of Rs 8500 core and cash as on June 30 is Rs 34,657 crore," Singh mentioned.
