For those aspirants who could not make the final cut of the Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC’s) prestigious Civils Services Examination 2023, there is some good news and their hard work won’t be for nothing.
The co-founder of Ditto Insurance Bhanu Harish Gurram on April 17 said the UPSC aspirants can join the advisory team of the insurance tech company, which is backed by Nithin Kamath’s Zerodha.
“We see the hard work you have put in, which is why we're fast-tracking applications from former UPSC aspirants. We now have a dedicated hiring process tailored just for former UPSC aspirants,” said Gurram, who is also the co-founder of Finshots, a web portal for financial news.
The co-founder highlighted the fact that every year over 1.2 million students appear for one of the toughest exams in the country. However, only 800 aspirants make it to the final list, which is a fraction of the total students appearing for the exam. Students spend years preparing for the exam and despite immense hard work, very few are able to clear the exam every year. Gurram said he has personally seen people preparing for the exam.
“I have personally seen a few people in my network who've spent over 3-4 years attempting the exam over and over in the hopes that they would make it through,” he said.
This is a harsh reality, not just in the case of UPSC, but also in other competitive exams like State PSC, Bank PO, and GATE, Gurram added.
However, the graduate of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, said aspirants need to bounce back.
“To those who didn't make it this year, I understand the disappointment. But it's time to bounce back and explore new opportunities.”
Gurram said the aspirants can join their team and no prior work experience will be required. He shared a link to the company’s portal for jobs, which can be checked here.
The post on LinkedIn was appreciated by netizens.
One of the user said, “Hi Bhanu, This is indeed very thoughtful and should be appreciated sincerely. I would love to know if there are opportunities aside from the ones mentioned in the link. I was preparing for UPSC full-time from April 2021 till December 2023. I attempted the Mains 2023 examination. Ditto Insurance HR team kindly let me know if any vacancy suits my profile.”
Another user said the job market doesn’t value the knowledge these aspirants have. He said, “Having spent 5 years in the process I can assure you that the 99% gains in many ways that the job market unfortunately doesn’t value today - wide range of knowledge on how the world works, ability to deal with failure and managing time and budget constraints, all very valuable and transferable skills. Good to see you offering such opportunities when they need a hand the most.”
On April 17, UPSC declared the much-awaited results for Civil Services Exam 2023. The top rank for the prestigious exam was secured by Aditya Srivastava, while Animesh Pradhan and Donuru Ananya Reddy secured the second and third ranks respectively, UPSC said.
According to the Commission, a total of 1,016 candidates passed the examination and have been recommended for different central government services.
