Dell, HP, Lenovo, Foxconn among 27 companies approved for PLI for IT Hardware: Ashwini Vaishnaw

The earlier version of the scheme had instituted incentives of up to 2 percent of net sales of domestically manufactured goods. The current version raises the basic incentive level to over 5 percent.

In May, the Cabinet had approved a renewed PLI scheme for IT hardware worth Rs 17,000 crore with a six-year tenure, aimed at boosting the domestic manufacturing of laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices.

As many as 27 companies, including Dell, HP, Foxconn and Lenovo have been approved for Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for IT hardware, Minister for Electronics and Information Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on November 18.

"Twenty-three of these companies are ready to start manufacturing on day zero. And four companies will start within 90 days. These 27 companies will lead to Rs 3,000 crore, direct employment of 50,000, and indirect employment of 1,50,000," Vaishnaw said.

Earlier, as many as 40 companies, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo, had applied for the IT hardware PLI scheme with a commitment to make personal computers, laptops, tablets, servers, and other equipment worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore during the scheme period.

The companies that have been approved include Dell, Foxconn, HP, Lenovo, Flextronics, VVDL, Rising Stars Hi-Tech, India Sales, Padget Electronics, SOJO, VVDN, Goodworth Electronics, Neolync Tele Communications, Syrma SGS, Bhagwati Products, Netweb Technologies, Genus Electrotech, Sahasra, Hangsine, Riot Labz, Smile, Mega Networks, Plumage Solutions, HLBS Tech, Panache Digilife, RDP Workstations, Kaynes, INP Technologies, Optiemus, ITI, Sancraft.

"Companies that have not been approved, they are evaluating, and they will also come," Vaishnaw further noted.

In May, the Cabinet approved a renewed PLI scheme for IT hardware worth Rs 17,000 crore with a six-year tenure, aimed at boosting the domestic manufacturing of laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices. It is anticipated to stimulate incremental production worth Rs 3.35 lakh crore and create 2 lakh employment opportunities.

Furthermore, the new scheme seeks to promote local manufacturing of smaller components in computing devices by rolling out additional incentives of up to 3 percent for companies that procure domestically-produced components, such as memory chips, printed circuit board assemblies, solid-state drives, chassis, power supply components, and adaptors.
