Essar Steel commissions steel service centre in Dubai

Ruias-promoted Essar Steel today said its steel processing arm - ESPD has commissioned a service centre facility at Dubai, ramping up its annual international capacity to one million tonne.

"Set up as the most modern steel service centre facility at Dubai, UAE, Essar Steel Processing and Distribution (ESPD) has a processing capacity of 2,50,000 tonnes per annum," Essar Steel said in a statement adding, the new centre is a step towards expanding the firm's global footprint.

This is the third such facility by Essar Steel Processing and Distribution (ESPD) after UK and Indonesia to cater to the European region and East Asian markets, respectively.

Commenting on the facility at Jebel Ali Free Zone, South, Dubai, company's Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, Vikram Amin said, "Middle East is a natural market for us since we are located on the West Coast of India."

The Dubai facility, the company said, will ship world class products to countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

"With the advantage of port facilities, Essar Steel will make shipments from the single largest single location 10 MTPA plant at Hazira in Gujarat to the ESPDF at Dubai," the company said.

It added that the ESPD is targeting to become 5 MTPA capacity servicing chain. It currently operates 3.3 MTPA capacity in India with seven service centres besides one MTPA capacity internationally with 3 service centres.
Essar Steel, part of Essar Global Ltd, is a fully integrated flat carbon steel manufacturer and has a capacity of 10 MTPA.
