Sterlite Industries shares rose 2.58 percent to Rs 93.55 after the National Green Tribunal allowed the firm to resume operations at its Tuticorim copper smelter. The unit was shut since March on environment-related concerns, following the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board order.
Sterlite Industries has been operating a copper smelter in the region for over 13 years and produced over 400000 tonnes of copper.
The smelter which meets half of India's copper requirement will start operations within a week after the firm completes related formalities.
However, a final order on the case is likely to be issued in July.
The smelter's closure had tightened supply of refined copper, driving up prices for consumers.
