Japan's Daiwa Securities Group Inc said on Monday it had launched its asset management business in India as it looks to tap into one of the largest retail asset management markets in the world.

"The launch of the Daiwa Asset Management in India is consistent with our stated strategy of investing primarily in Asia and the faster growing emerging markets," said Toshiro Ishibashi, president of Daiwa Asset Management, in a statement.

Daiwa Securities had bought the entire stake of Shinsei Bank's Indian mutual fund unit in March last year.
