The Ministry of Environemnt and Forests has blamed NHAI for GMR pulling out of the Ahmedabad Kishangarh highway project. MoEF sources said that NHAI had submitted an incomplete application regarding the highway project, reports Nayantara Rai of CNBC-TV18.

The environment ministry blames the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the delay in project. Sources in the environment ministry say that, at the time when NHAI applied for this project which is running through two states Gujarat and Rajasthan. NHAI submitted an incomplete application. The NHAI still does not have all the requisite information from the state of Gujarat for land acquisition and how many trees would be chopped down for this project.

The ministry said that there was no point in processing the application that was submitted by NHAI since it would be rejected by all the various committees that would follow. Clearly, the blame is put on NHAI.

From the sources it is also learnt that on January 1, CP Joshi, the roads minister wrote a letter to the environment minister, Jayanthi Natarajan asking her to convene a special meeting of the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) as far as this GMR project is concerned.
