This year, Tier 2 and 3 colleges witnessed a decline in startup job offers.

Campus placements at tier 2, and 3 colleges in the country witnessed a 7 percent year-on-year (YoY) surge in 2023 with placement numbers increasing to 12,050 compared to 11,310 in 2022, according to a report by HRtech platform GetWork.

The report found a 88 percent YoY increase in the number of open job listings on GetWork. Among the sectors, Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), followed by Healthcare, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals and Retail were the top five job providers in 2023, according to the report, which analysed data on 262 tier 2 and 3 colleges, 730 employers and over 1.9 lakh students.

The top in-demand job roles this year were business development executive, data analyst, customer service executive and digital marketing intern.

“This jump in placement numbers is a testament to the massive talent available in tier 2 and tier 3 colleges and corporates’ shifting hiring strategies. This jump can also be attributed to our use of advanced data analytics, bucketing the right talent for the right opportunity and pre-assessing the candidates to build a ready pipeline for enterprise clients,” said Rahul Veerwal, CEO and Founder of GetWork.

More MNC placements than startups

This year, tier 2 and tier 3 colleges witnessed a decline in startup job offers. However, there was an increase in hiring by leading MNCs like Religare, Sharekhan, Motilal Oswal, HDFC and Aditya Birlawere, which were among the top five recruiters on GetWork in 2023.

In 2024, Veerwal expects BFSI and Healthcare to emerge as the fastest-growing sectors with EMPI (Engineering, Manufacturing, Process and Infrastructure) poised to witness the highest growth ever.

“2024 is poised to be a great employment year with accelerated recruitment in automobile, manufacturing, oil and gas, and infrastructure sectors. Also, new-age job roles such as AI and ML engineer, followed by digital marketer, healthcare professional and human resource manager are projected to be the most sought-after roles in 2024,” he added.
