Losing someone or something important is one of life’s hardest moments, grief can feel overwhelming like a constant companion that doesn’t live nevertheless, it is still possible to find ways to cope without forgetting the person or you have lost
According to Dr Samant Darshi, Interventional Psychiatrist and Director of Psymate Healthcare, grief softens with time. Dr Darshi tells Moneycontrol, “It’s not about erasing the memory but learning to carry it with compassion and continuing to live fully.” Whether it’s the passing of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a pet, or even a job, grief touches everyone. And it’s not only emotional, it can drain you physically too. The key lies in small, deliberate steps that help you honour your feelings while gently moving forward.
Talking and sharing: Open up to a trusted friend, family member, or counsellor. Sharing your memories and feelings can lighten the burden and create space for healing. “Putting your feelings into words allows the mind to start processing the loss,” says Dr Darshi.

Writing and journaling: Penning your thoughts can help you understand your emotions without judgment. Some even write letters to those they’ve lost, keeping a line of connection alive.
Rituals and memories: Honour your loved one through rituals—lighting a candle, visiting meaningful places, keeping a photo, or planting a tree. These acts preserve the bond and create a comforting sense of continuity.
Caring for the body: Grief is tiring. Make sure to rest, eat well, and move gently. Walking, stretching, or even light exercise can help both mind and body heal.
Creative outlets: Music, art, or other forms of creativity can be a safe way to release emotions that are too hard to say aloud.
Family support: Meeting other family meme era and friends who have experienced similar losses reminds you that grief is personal yet shared. You’re not alone in your feelings.
Trying to suppress emotions or pretending everything is fine can prolong the pain. Avoid numbing yourself with alcohol or drugs, or drowning yourself in overwork. These may delay healing rather than help.

Dr Darshi emphasises, “All forms of grief are real, whether it’s a breakup, job loss, or the death of a pet. Acknowledging your loss is the first step: ‘This matters.’”
Coping with grief isn’t about moving on—it’s about learning to live alongside the loss. It’s about holding hope while carrying sorrow, and discovering small moments of joy even as you treasure the memories. With care, support, and time, grief becomes a quieter companion that reminds us of the love we’ve shared.
