  • Bedroom in north or northeast brings positive energy and financial security
  • Keep bedroom tidy, uncluttered, and use warm basic wall colors for harmony
  • Avoid south-facing houses and unnecessary furniture for better marital prospects

For a happy marriage, open communication and conversations have always been considered important and for the right reasons. However, there are other factors too, which play an instrumental role in determining the course of the relationship. According to Pandit Jagannath Guru Ji, celebrity astrologer and prophesier, the ancient science of spaces, usually referred to as Vastu Shastra, and Vedic Astrology, for instance, are two such significant determinants that could potentially help a couple lead a blissful married life.

Suitable direction for bedroom, as per Vastu Shastra and Vedic Astrology

Before the bedroom, it is important to note that as per Vastu Shastra, one should avoid taking possession of a south-facing house, for the energies in this case are bound to be detrimental for the health of the residents. The most suitable directional facings for a house are believed to be east, north, northeast, and even west.

According to Jagannanth Guru Ji, “The most suitable direction in a house for the bedroom of a married couple is said to be the ‘kuber sthanam’, also referred to as the deva mool. As per Vastu Shastra, the ‘kuber sthanam’ refers to the northern direction of a home while it might even extend from the north towards the ‘eshanya’ or northeast corners.”

This space inside the house is believed to be governed by the deity of wealth, Lord Kubera, thereby suggesting that a bedroom located here would be destined for financial security as well as positive fortune in life. He added, “Agni Mool and Vayu Mool should strictly be avoided for a married couple’s bedroom.”

It is advisable for a couple to also ensure that they do not stock their bedroom with items such as furniture or cabinets that are not really essential. “The power-positive energy of this space must remain as unhindered as possible, and thus one should stick to the mantra of keeping less items in a bedroom,” he pointed out.

Equally, if not more, important is the need to keep the bedroom absolutely tidy, clean and in a hygienic de-cluttered condition.  He said, “It would further benefit the prospects if the room is designed facing the west direction. While sleeping, an attempt should be made by both the partners to keep their head towards the west or north direction. It is important to note that one should never keep the toes towards the north or west while sleeping.”

Another significant modification to a couple’s bedroom, as per Vastu and astrological beliefs, is to create a family zone preferably in the eshanya kone of the room. According to him, “Doing so might simply add to the joys of everyday as northeast is a positive direction, most conducive to rest, sleep and also enjoy one’s relationship with spouse as well as kids.”

He further suggested, "If space permits, do add a dash of green to the bedroom in the form of a snake plant or a bamboo plant. Besides, the wall colours should ideally fall into the warm and basic shades. One should try to avoid mixed or energy colours, and go for basics like white and other such hues. It’s essentially the environments we create around us, and the principles we believe in, that determine the course of our relationships.”
