  • Vastu suggests discarding old items before Holi for good energy
  • Remove dried plants, broken glass, and damaged electronics
  • Discard old shoes and broken idols to invite prosperity

On Holi, most people think just about colours. But in Vastu Shastra, it is viewed as a transitional phase, where the arrival of spring implies spiritual cleansing and new beginnings. That’s also the reason why Holika Dahan, celebrated on the eve of Holi, is considered significant. It symbolises the triumph of good over evil and the victory of faith over tyranny.

According to Vastu, there are a few items in the house that should be discarded before the festival as you clean the house and gear up for spring. This will help reduce stress, improve focus, and bring good luck and prosperity.

5 things you must discard on Holi

Here are 5 things you should remove from the house…

Dried plants

In Vastu, dried or dead plants are considered inauspicious, symbolising stagnation and negativity. They can even make the atmosphere feel heavy and sad. Removing them before Holi will block such energy. Instead, try growing tulsi, money plants, or jade plants; these will add a touch of greenery and bring the delight associated with spring.

Old and worn-out shoes

Old and worn-out shoes are always set aside thinking they may be of use one day or for giving away (which is most often forgotten). But they should be removed from the house. Torn shoes signal struggles and difficulties, which is not pleasant. Keeping them in the house can spread negative energy.

Broken glass

Consider throwing broken glass or mirrors out of the house, as they are not considered auspicious. They are believed to obstruct the flow of energy and cause negativity to spread. These objects also take up space. So before the festival, you should remove broken glass from the house.

Broken idols

Holi is the time of worshipping gods and goddesses. Before you get to the prayer rituals, you should remove any broken idol in the house. But remember to remove it respectfully by immersing the idol in water, placing it near a peepal tree, or burying it in the sand.

Damaged electronics

If there are any damaged or faulty electronics in the house, they should be removed, whether a mobile phone, TV, or a kitchen appliance. It can aggravate Rahu and affect your financial life negatively.
