A video shared on Instagram has drawn attention to a sharp rise in demand for induction cooktops in India, with a shop owner saying sales have surged in recent days as concerns grow over the availability of LPG cylinders.
The clip was posted by Instagram user Nasser Saleh, who recorded a conversation with his father who runs Bombay Gaslight Stores in Vizag. In the video, the two discussed how many induction cooktops the store usually sells in a typical day.
When asked about daily sales, Saleh’s father responded that the shop generally sells “2–3” induction cooktops per day. However, he explained that demand had increased significantly in recent days.
According to him, the store had sold more than 100 induction cooktops in the previous two days, a rise he linked to the ongoing Iran–Israel conflict and concerns that it could affect LPG supplies.
While the conversation was taking place in the shop, the video also shows customers purchasing induction cooktops at the counter. At least two or three units were sold during the recording, reflecting the growing demand.
Saleh’s father added that he had anticipated an increase in demand and had placed advance orders for additional induction cooktops and compatible cookware.
Several Instagram clips show users browsing online marketplaces and pointing out that many induction cooktop models are currently unavailable.
The growing demand for induction cooktops has been linked to worries among consumers about LPG cylinder availability in several cities.
Reports from different parts of the country have also described long queues outside LPG distribution centres, where customers have been waiting to collect cylinders.
According to government officials, restrictions on commercial LPG bookings have been introduced in order to prioritise supply for households. The situation has led some consumers to look for alternative cooking options such as induction cooktops.
Retailers have also reported a sharp rise in demand for the appliances, according to a report in NDTV.
Electronics retailer Croma, which operates under the Tata Group, said it has experienced a notable increase in interest in induction cooktops. Shibashish Roy, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infiniti Retail Ltd, which runs Croma, said the company had seen a strong rise in demand in recent days.
“At Croma, we have noticed a sharp increase in demand for induction cooktops over the past few days,” he said.
Manufacturers have also reported a similar trend.
Rajendra Gandhi, Managing Director of Stovekraft Ltd, which sells appliances under brands such as Pigeon and Gilma, said the company has recorded a significant jump in online sales of induction cooktops. He stated that weekly online sales had risen sharply since tensions in the Middle East escalated, with demand on e-commerce platforms increasing several times over.
Despite the surge in consumer purchases, the government has sought to reassure the public that domestic LPG supplies remain stable.
