The tech-savvy young generation loves to embraces the ethos of blending traditional Indian elements with modern aesthetics. In the realm of office wear, this translates into pairing classic staples like kurtas, dhotis, or saris with contemporary pieces such as tailored blazers, crop tops, or high-waisted trousers. The juxtaposition of old and new creates a striking fusion that exudes sophistication and cultural pride.

One of the hallmarks of Gen Z's approach to office wear is their willingness to experiment with unconventional silhouettes. Whether it's opting for asymmetrical hemlines, oversized fits, or avant-garde draping techniques, Gen Z isn't afraid to push the boundaries of traditional Indian attire. This fearless experimentation adds a refreshing dynamism to office ensembles, challenging conventional norms and expectations.

Gen Z has redefined what it means to dress for success in the workplace. As they continue to push the boundaries of fashion and self-expression, Udita Bansal, founder of trueBrowns, suggests investing in versatile Indian office wear that merges professionalism with personal style. She says, “Opt for tailored kurtas and pant sets or co-ord sets in classic colours like navy, beige or white, incorporating traditional Indian textiles for an added elegance. For formal meetings, accessorise the outfit with understated yet statement pieces such as gold or silver jewellery, and polished shoes. When styling for work occasions, experiment with prints and textures like dresses or co-ord sets with ikat prints. Invest in timeless pieces that exude confidence and sophistication, allowing individuals to express their cultural heritage while commanding respect in professional settings.”

Udita, whose latest collection is called Malang, insists on picking the right colours and designs for office wear that can be paired with multiple separates involves opting for versatile yet sophisticated choices. For relaxed fits, she suggests, “Select neutral colours like blue, beige, or white and brown which effortlessly complement a variety of separates. Additionally, classic patterns such as stripes or subtle geometric prints add visual interest without overwhelming the ensemble.”

For a lot of millennial and Gen Zs, the commitment to sustainability and ethical fashion extends to their office wear choices as well. They gravitate towards brands that prioritise eco-friendly materials, fair labor practices, and transparent supply chains. Vintage and thrifted pieces also find favour among Gen Z fashion enthusiasts, offering a unique blend of nostalgia and environmental consciousness. For those who are big fans of cotton and eco-friendly textlies, Udita recommends choosing breathable fabrics in soft pastel shades or earthy tones, which exude a sense of freshness and comfort while maintaining professionalism. She says, “Incorporate timeless designs like tailored blazers or well-fitted trousers ensure a polished look that can easily transition from meetings to after-work events. Emphasise the importance of selecting office wear that reflects your personal style while offering versatility and ease of pairing with different separates.”
