Black coffee has grown in popularity for the numerous health benefits it provides. Adding to the buzz, Dr. Shubham Vatsya, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, hailed the beverage for supporting liver health besides boosting metabolism and sharpening the mind.
In his latest video on Instagram, he talked about the power of black coffee and how it’s great for the body. “Black coffee isn’t just a morning ritual, it’s medicine for your liver. Without milk and sugar, it becomes one of the rare natural drinks proven to dissolve liver fat and protect against long-term damage.”
This is not the first time that Dr. Vatsya has spoken about the health benefits of black coffee. In another video, he called it “one of the most underrated health drinks.” Hailing its benefits, he said, “With just 1-2 calories, it protects your liver, boosts metabolism, and sharpens your mind.”
The gastroenterologist further shared that research shows people who consume 2-3 cups daily have a significantly lower risk of fatty liver and liver cancer. For those who consume it, it can help regulate dopamine and improve mood and focus.
In the end, Dr. Vatsya cautioned that there’s only one rule to drinking black coffee: it should be pure black coffee without any sugar or cream. This keeps its health benefits intact.
Besides him, another Apollo surgeon listed the benefits of drinking black coffee but warned against its excessive consumption, which can increase health risks including elevated cortisol, heart rate, and adrenaline. He too recommended drinking 300-400 mg of caffeine (3 to 4 cups) a day and nothing more.
