When it comes to weight loss, many people focus only on physical training, often overlooking the need for a mindset change. Changing the way you think about your fitness goals can help you shed extra kilos more easily and sustainably. For those looking to get fitter and healthier in 2026, fitness coach Raj Ganpath shared four important tips to keep in mind.
The fitness coach suggested slowing down—expectations, efforts and everything else. He noted that the main reason people don’t make any progress is because they are always in a rush and impatient, and weight loss is not about that. “We just want to get things done. We want to lose weight as quickly as possible. We want to get strong as fast as possible. We want too much too soon. But if we can slow things down, you bring things under your control. You make fewer mistakes. You’re more focused and as a result, you end up getting a lot more done.”

He advised not to get influenced by what you see on Instagram reels or other social media platforms, as it focuses on just the highlights. Trying to replicate the same won’t work because it is hard to do it consistently. Even getting jealous or annoyed with someone else’s progress won’t take you anywhere. “So what you need to do is get inspired by what you see and learn to apply it in your life in a way that it matters to you,” he said.
Raj suggested not to focus only on the first few months, rather spread your fitness goals over 12 months, which has 365 days, sufficient for weight loss. “Let’s say you want to lose a few kilos, you are much better off losing one kilo in a month and doing that for the rest of the year than trying to get it done in the first couple of months. When you can slow things down like this, you are able to approach your goals with a lot more clarity and calm. And as a result, you’re a lot more effective.”

Learn to be kind to yourself. “Because despite your best efforts, something will always go wrong. You will mess up. Things will not go to plan. When that happens, it is important to not linger but to say it’s okay and move on to the next task so you can make forward progress,” he said.
