Dipika Kakar shared that her latest blood test reports show her thyroid levels are out of range, a consequence of her treatment

Dipika Kakar, who was diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer earlier this year, has been undergoing treatment that includes targeted therapy. While she has been braving it all with a smile and the support of her family, in a recent YouTube video she opened up about some of the side effects of the medication.

The actress shared that her latest blood test reports show her thyroid levels are out of range, a consequence of her treatment. She said, “I had hypothyroidism before and was already taking medication for it. When my targeted therapy started, Dr Imran had asked me to keep a close watch on my thyroid levels because they tend to get disturbed even in patients without a thyroid history.”

Dipika added that she had sensed changes in her body over the past few days. “As a woman, you easily understand when there are hormonal changes. I was experiencing bloating, mood swings, and fatigue.” She mentioned that while the rest of her reports are normal, her thyroid dosage has been increased to 100 mcg and will be reviewed again in four weeks.

It’s not just her thyroid; Dipika has also been dealing with mouth ulcers that come and go on their own. Another major issue she mentioned is hair fall. “Dr Imran, my oncologist, had said that in targeted therapy, there are very rare chances of hair fall. But I am going through it. My hair was never so thin and now the gaps are visible. I will start wearing a hair patch soon,” she said.

While her medication will continue for another year and a half, the actress shared, “All I want is that the reason for which I am taking this tablet should be fulfilled; the rest is okay. The only way out is to keep getting blood tests done and rectify fluctuations on time.” She urged fans to take care of themselves, stay happy, and make memories with their loved ones because life is too short.

Earlier this year, Dipika’s persistent stomach pain led to medical tests, where a CT scan revealed a malignant tumour in the left lobe of her liver, almost the size of a tennis ball, as her husband Shoaib shared. She underwent a day-long surgery to remove the tumour, after which she was recommended targeted therapy.
