Mornings are a sacred time of the day, when the world is distraction-free, giving you time to take it slow and focus on what’s more important. Taking care of your body and mind should therefore be prioritised for a more energetic and productive start.
In a recent Instagram post, cardiologist Dr Jeremy London shared his own morning routine to inspire people to have a more organised and healthy start to their day. It includes five easy steps which may seem small, but help a great deal in making your mornings successful.
Follow the saying: “early to bed, early to rise…,” and it’s bound to change your life. While the cardiologist shared that he wakes up at 4:00 AM, which may be impractical for others, he advised to rise an hour earlier before your usual time.
“Choosing to wake up earlier than usual is a deliberate move towards gaining control over your life. It signals that you have a plan for the day before it begins,” he said.

The key is to focus on areas you’re not good at and need improvement. For the cardiologist, staying hydrated during the day is a challenge, so he begins his day with a glass of water. Hydration is necessary in the morning, as your body is in a dehydrated state after 8 hours of sleep.
During this silent time of the day, you can indulge in activities that help calm your mind. Dr London said, “The morning hours are sacred for me. My protected time before the responsibilities, calls, and distractions of the day start to pile up. This time with my thoughts gives me the opportunity to do personal reading, learn, or just enjoy a cup of coffee with a dog or two.”
It is a good time to prioritise what needs to be done in the day. For this, Dr London suggested asking yourself: What is the one thing that, if I complete it, I can count as a win? “Big or small - singling out the most important thing that needs to get done and doing it. Checking this off before the day starts feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders,” he said.
Walking, running, or any form of workout should be non-negotiable and best done in the morning, as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. “The benefits of exercise are unmatched. A walk, run, hike, bike ride, or lifting and resistance training. The modality doesn't matter; what matters is you are moving your body and pushing yourself. Whatever level that is.”
