WWE superstar Drew McIntyre is stepping from the wrestling ring to the big screen, joining the cast of Highlander, the highly anticipated reboot from Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists.
McIntyre will portray Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill’s Connor MacLeod, in the action-packed project directed by Chad Stahelski.
Star-Studded Cast and Production Team
Alongside Drew McIntyre and Henry Cavill, Highlander will feature Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Dave Bautista. Michael Finch penned the screenplay, building on the story of the 1986 original, which followed immortal warriors in a battle across time, originally starring Christopher Lambert. The 1986 film inspired sequels and a TV series in 1992 starring Adrian Paul.
Production had been set to begin earlier this month but paused when Henry Cavill suffered an injury during training. The project is now expected to roll out in early 2026, with UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt producing alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner. Lionsgate also developed the film, while UA secured full rights to the original.
From Wrestling Rings to the Big Screen
Drew McIntyre, a two-time WWE champion and 2020 Royal Rumble winner, reunites with Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven stunt and action team and with fellow retired wrestler Dave Bautista. McIntyre previously collaborated with Bautista on The Killer’s Game, marking his feature debut with Lionsgate. Represented by Paradigm and Ziffren Brittenham, McIntyre is embracing a major cinematic opportunity that blends intense action with his commanding presence.
In a reboot that promises intense combat, immersive stunt work, and epic storytelling—all hallmarks of Stahelski's direction and the original Highlander legacy—fans can anticipate seeing McIntyre and Cavill appear on screen together as brothers.
