Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are undoubtedly one of Bollywood's most adored and influential couples. Their love story began in 2012, and after dating for six years, they tied the knot in a dreamy wedding in 2018. Recently, they embraced parenthood, welcoming their daughter, Dua Padukone. However, their journey together has not always been smooth.
In an episode of Koffee With Karan, Deepika reflected on the early days of their relationship, recalling how she was battling depression at the time. She shared that while Ranveer was always supportive, he was initially unfamiliar with mental health struggles and unsure of how to navigate the situation.
During the in-depth conversation on the show, both the actors spoke about Deepika's battle with depression.
Ranveer Singh shared how he handled the situation when Deepika Padukone was struggling with depression. Deepika acknowledged that Ranveer provided a 'safe space' for her and showed immense patience during that challenging time. Ranveer recalled that when it first happened in 2014, he was in the middle of a film shoot, making it an especially difficult period to navigate. He said, "She called and she said ‘I’ve had a blackout and I’ve had a fall. Can you come home?' I cut the call and I was on my bike straight to her house. When I saw her, something wasn’t right. She’s in front, she’s looking at you but she’s not all there."
Ranveer Singh recalled a moment when he and Deepika Padukone were having breakfast together, and she was continuously in tears. He admitted feeling helpless at that moment, as he watched her cry without being able to console her. "I got up and went to her and I was like 'Kya hua baby? Main kya kar sakta hoon aapke liye?' The reason I remember that vividly is because it was that moment where I felt completely helpless," he recalled.
Ranveer Singh, feeling deeply concerned about Deepika Padukone's emotional state, decided to call her parents and sister from Bangalore for support. Deepika later reflected on how Ranveer helped her through that difficult phase, sharing that he created a safe space for her to express herself without dismissing her feelings.
She appreciated that he never tried to brush off her emotions with phrases like "it's okay, forget it" or suggest distractions like going for a drive. Although he didn’t fully understand depression at the time, he was completely present for her, displaying immense patience. She said this experience revealed a lot about the kind of person he is.
