A touching moment from the evening that quickly went viral showed Vijay warmly embracing his son post-screening, followed by him congratulating director Anal Arasu for the film’s successful reception.
Adding more excitement to the occasion, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay—who is currently preparing for his political plunge following his final film Jana Nayagan—made time from his hectic schedule to catch a screening of Phoenix.
In a gesture that fans are calling “iconic,” director Anal Arasu shared a photo with Thalapathy Vijay and Surya on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Bloody sweet! That’s the vibe after Thalapathy Vijay sir watched #Phoenix and shared his MERSAL MAXX words! The Phoenix is flying on FIRE now!”
Surya, visibly moved, reshared the image and penned a heartfelt note: “Thank you @actorvijay sir. The last hug, the kind words, the warmth and it meant everything. I’ve always looked up to you, and to feel your support on this journey is something I’ll never forget.”
Phoenix is a sports action-drama that follows the journey of a young wrestler battling against oppressive forces. Featuring Surya Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, the film also stars Abhinakshathra, J Vignesh, Sampath Raj, and Devadarshini. Directed by Anal Arasu and produced under the AK Braveman Picturess banner, it hit cinemas on 4 July 2025, alongside Siddharth’s 3BHK.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in the romantic crime-comedy Ace, and is next gearing up for the release of Thalaivan Thalaivii, a romantic-comedy by Pandiraj co-starring Nithya Menen, set to release on 25 July.
