Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, has come out in defence of Jaya Bachchan following the senior actor’s controversial remarks about paparazzi, urging empathy and respect amid the backlash. Sunita addressed the issue in a recent vlog where she answered fan questions about media interactions and highlighted the need to understand individual responses to constant attention.
Jaya Bachchan, a veteran of Indian cinema, recently sparked debate after vocally criticising paparazzi behaviour at a public discussion. The actor questioned the professionalism and conduct of photographers, saying she does not associate with them and expressing discomfort with intrusive picture-taking. Her candid comments triggered mixed reactions, with some defending her stance and others labelling it unduly harsh.
In response, Sunita Ahuja—known for her cheerful relationship with the media—explained that everyone reacts differently to public attention. She suggested that Jaya’s remarks stemmed from irritation rather than ill will, adding that if someone does not like being photographed, their preferences should be respected. Sunita contrasted her own approach of engaging playfully with photographers with Jaya’s discomfort, but clarified that this difference in style doesn’t diminish her respect for the senior actress.
Sunita defended Jaya, said, “Look, everyone has their own thoughts and thinking. Jaya ma’am must be getting irritated. I can’t say anything about her. She is very big. She must not like it. So, if she doesn’t like it, then paparazzi shouldn’t do it."
“Look, I have a lot of fun with everyone. I feel like I should get up in the morning and start having fun because there is nothing in life. There is only one life. It is very difficult to get a human life. You should live your life with a smile. There is no point in fighting. In the end, we all have to go up. So, live your life with a smile. If Jaya ji doesn’t like it, then I can’t say anything about her. I love Jaya ji a lot and I will always love her," Sunita added.
Jaya Bachchan has frequently voiced her discomfort with being photographed by the paparazzi at public events.
Over the years, she has openly called them out and, on several occasions, reprimanded photographers during public appearances. Her remarks have often sparked debate, with critics weighing in—filmmaker Ashoke Pandit among those who slammed the actor, going so far as to label her a snob.
