Veteran actor and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan was seen arriving at the prayer meet held in memory of Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, son of late filmmaker Ramanand Sagar. As photographers and videographers surrounded her near the entrance, Jaya briefly acknowledged the crowd and requested space, telling the paparazzi, “Rasta dijiye please,” before walking inside quietly.

Anand Sagar Chopra passed away in Mumbai on February 13 at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. He had been battling Parkinson’s disease for years, and his wife Nisha Sagar Chopra said he breathed his last at 10:37 am, surrounded by family, adding that he “went away peacefully.”

The prayer meet saw several familiar faces from the Hindi film and television industry pay their respects, underlining the wide circle Anand Sagar’s work touched. Following in his father’s footsteps, Anand Sagar played a key role in carrying forward the Sagar family’s television legacy and was known for his association with mythological and devotional storytelling on the small screen.

Jaya Bachchan’s presence stood out for its simplicity and restraint. Dressed in white, she walked through the venue without stopping for photos, maintaining a solemn demeanor throughout. The gathering was marked by subdued conversations, folded hands, and a steady stream of visitors arriving to offer condolences to the family.

Alongside Jaya, senior actor Anju Mahendru was also spotted at the venue, arriving in a traditional white outfit. Poonam Sinha, too, was seen attending the prayer meet, joining others in paying their last respects.

Anand Sagar’s demise has prompted tributes from colleagues and admirers, many of whom remembered him as soft-spoken and deeply committed to his work. The prayer meet served as a final collective goodbye from an industry that grew up on the stories his family helped put on Indian television.

Jaya Bachchan had earlier slammed paparazzi culture and lashed out at them for spotting her without her consent.
