Jaya Bachchan says her feud with paparazzi won’t hurt Agastya Nanda’s career, points to Amitabh Bachchan’s past press ban

Jaya Bachchan has dismissed claims that her frequent clashes with photographers could negatively impact the budding career of her grandson Agastya Nanda, stating that his destiny is his own. She cited how her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, endured a long press ban early in his career without it derailing his success, underscoring her belief that media tensions do not determine an actor’s trajectory.

Veteran actress and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan has firmly rejected speculation that her sometimes tense interactions with paparazzi might adversely affect the film career of her grandson Agastya Nanda. Responding to ongoing chatter within industry circles, she stressed that no external factor can alter Agastya’s professional destiny, and that the young actor will forge his own path in Bollywood.

Over the past few years, Jaya Bachchan’s blunt responses to photographers at public events have often gone viral, attracting both criticism and support online. Some observers in the film community have suggested these public spats might contribute to shaping narratives around Agastya Nanda’s work. But Jaya — known for her forthright views — has categorically dismissed this idea in a recent interview with Variety India.

“No power on earth can change my grandson’s destiny. If Agastya is destined to be a star, nothing can change it. Agastya will have his own equation with the press. It has nothing to do with me.” She emphasised that Agastya will develop his own relationship with the media, separate from her own public persona. To reinforce her point, Jaya pointed to her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, who once faced a 15-year press ban at the height of his early stardom. She asked rhetorically whether that prolonged media silence ever hurt his career, “At the height of his stardom, Amitji was banned by the press for almost 15 years. How did that impact his career?”

Agastya Nanda, son of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda, made his acting debut with the 2023 Netflix film The Archies and later appeared in the war drama Ikkis (2026).

While neither release became a blockbuster, Jaya has repeatedly highlighted Agastya’s determination, work ethic and individuality in his craft, saying his journey will be shaped by his own choices and efforts.
