After a five-year break, the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has made a highly anticipated return, bringing back its signature glitz and glamour with a few changes. The 2024 show marks the brand’s return to the original format, following last year’s experiment with "Victoria’s Secret: The Tour."
Fans eagerly tuned in for the live event, which streamed on Tuesday, October 15, starting with the red carpet at 6:30 pm ET, hosted by Olivia Culpo and TikToker Tefi Pessoa. The main show went live at 7 pm ET, available on Amazon Live, Prime Video, and Victoria’s Secret’s social media channels.
The runway was graced by an array of supermodels, including some iconic names who returned after years. Tyra Banks, who last walked for Victoria’s Secret 19 years ago, made a triumphant comeback. Also reappearing after a decade-long hiatus was Doutzen Kroes, who shared her surprise at being away for so long: "I cannot believe it has been a decade since I was last at the show."
Meanwhile, Carla Bruni expressed her excitement to walk the runway again, jokingly lamenting that her husband, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, "would have had a heart attack" if he had been present. Other well-known faces included Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Adriana Lima, Ashley Graham, Jasmine Tookes, Behati Prinsloo, and Candice Swanepoel.
The star-studded evening featured live performances from an all-female lineup for the first time, headlined by Cher, Tyla, and K-pop sensation Lisa from Blackpink. Tyla spoke enthusiastically about sharing the stage with her friend Lisa and the legendary Cher, saying, “I’m performing alongside my friend Lisa and the legend Cher!! Like what the heck??!! Just us girls! I know it’s going to be such a special night for us and a night that ‘young Tyla’ would die for, so I’m really excited!”
The show’s return follows its 2019 cancellation due to declining viewership, sales, and backlash over issues like the lack of body diversity and harsh modeling requirements. The hiatus came after mounting criticisms hurt the brand’s reputation. This year, Victoria's Secret sought to address its past controversies by embracing a more inclusive approach. The company pledged on its website that "Victoria’s Secret is focused on celebrating and supporting all women, and that won’t change anytime soon."
The 2024 event was a blend of old favorites and new faces. Besides veterans like Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Irina Shayk, the show featured rising stars and debut appearances from Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Moss, Ashley Graham, and Paloma Elsesser. With a mix of returning icons and fresh talent, the lingerie giant aimed to deliver a reimagined yet nostalgic spectacle.
Streaming live from New York City, the event aimed to recapture the excitement of past shows while signaling a new direction. Victoria’s Secret made clear that the glamour and energy fans expect would remain, but with a broader focus on inclusivity and diversity, showing the brand's commitment to evolving from its once-controversial image.
