TMKOC first ad resurfaces on the internet

Few Indian television programs have won over viewers as much as Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC). However, many viewers may not be aware that the show's original commercial tone was entirely different from the upbeat Gokuldham Society we see today.

Daya Ben and Madhavi Bhide were seen fighting over running water in the show's first teaser, which was a light-hearted but an important depiction of common hardships. It concluded with the provocative tagline, "Problem sabke saath hai, sirf nazariye ki baat hai," after Taarak Mehta intervened and submerged a plant to end the altercation.

Recently, that decades-old advertisement reappeared online and quickly gained popularity among nostalgic fans.

Since its inception, TMKOC has developed into one of India's most adored sitcoms, airing continuously since 2008 and surpassing 4,500 episodes, an uncommon accomplishment in Indian television.

However, despite all of the humour and life lessons, one character stands out: Dayaben, who is portrayed by the talented Disha Vakani. She became the lifeblood of Gokuldham with her loud, loving laugh, peculiar Gujarati accent, and catchphrase, "Hey Maa, Mataji!"

Her absence since 2017 has left a void fans still can’t fill, and her return remains one of the most talked-about topics among viewers.

In a recent chat with Moneycontrol, the show’s creator and producer Asit Kumar Modi finally spoke about it — and his words gave fans hope. He shared, “I'm often asked when Dayaben will return to the show. I've never shown that the character has exited the show. People still remember Dayaben fondly, even after 7-8 years. It's a tough question for me, as replacing Disha Vakani would be difficult. Any new artist would struggle to fill the void she left. It's not easy for women to balance work and family after marriage. I still pray that she returns to the show. We're serious about bringing Dayaben back, and as soon as she returns, Popatlal's wedding will happen. Dayaben's presence is essential for Popatlal's wedding.”

With his heartfelt words, Asit Modi reignited fans’ hopes of seeing Dayaben once again light up Gokuldham with her laughter and warmth.
