Tom Holland hints at Spider-Man: Brand New Day returning to 'old-school filmmaking', "We are gonna shoot in real locations"

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the previous film in the franchise, was released right after Peter Parker's identity was made public in Far From Home (2019).

Tom Holland is all set to don the Spidey suit once again for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth installment in the beloved Spider-Man franchise.

Although there is still much to learn about the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, Holland has given fans new cause for excitement by implying that the style and spirit of the franchise will return to its origins.

The 29-year-old actor recently discussed his lengthy journey as the legendary web-slinger and offered insights into the creative direction of the upcoming movie in an appearance on the Flip Your Wig YouTube series.

“Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal,” Holland said fondly. “I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages.”

Now, with fewer pandemic-related limitations, Holland revealed that the team is embracing a more grounded, traditional approach to moviemaking. “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together. So it’s gonna feel like making (2017’s) Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.” Tom added.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the previous film in the franchise, was released right after Peter Parker's identity was made public in Far From Home (2019). As Doctor Strange's attempt to make the world forget Peter's identity failed, the movie adopted a daring, multiverse-spanning strategy.

As a result, a number of antagonists from other Spider-Man universes made an appearance, and to the fervour of fans, a well-known crossover event brought back the original Spider-Men, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, is slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. There is a lot of conjecture regarding returning characters, even though plot details are being kept very secret.

Fans are fervently hoping for Zendaya to reprise her role as MJ and Jacob Batalon to return as Ned Leeds, although no official casting confirmations have been made yet.

As Holland prepares to swing back into action with renewed energy and a back-to-basics filmmaking approach, anticipation is building for what promises to be another exciting chapter in the Spider-Man legacy.
