Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has recently opened up about his dyslexia and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) diagnosis and how it sometimes affects his acting. He also detailed how he overcame it.
In a recent interview with IGN, the actor shared, “I have ADHD and I'm dyslexic, and I find sometimes when someone gives me a blank canvas that it can be slightly intimidating.”
The actor added, “Sometimes you are met with those challenges when developing a character.”
However, Tom stated that he uses "play" to try to awaken his inner child in order to prepare for any role.
He elaborated, “Any way that you can, as a young person or as an adult, interact with something that forces you to be creative and forces you to think outside the box and make changes.” He added, “I think that the more we do that sort of stuff, the better.”
Although this is the first time Tom has talked about his difficulties with ADHD, he has previously discussed how he manages his dyslexia, which he was diagnosed with when he was seven years old.
The actor previously revealed that he had the most difficulty with the reading.
During a 2023 appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Tom explained, “My dyslexia, it’s really just my spelling.”
The actor credited his parents, Dominic Holland and Nikki Holland, for their support, adding, “My spelling was really the biggest hurdle. I worked really hard at school. I didn’t do particularly well but my parents said, ‘As long as you try your best.’”
On the work front, Tom Holland is currently gearing up for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Several videos and photos from the set have gone viral, creating a buzz among the fans. The film will also star Tom’s fiancée, Zendaya, as Peter Parker’s girlfriend, M.J. Jones-Watson. Jacob Batalon will also reprise his role as his best friend, Ned Leeds.
