The word is out, the teaser is out, and the fans are abuzz — Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen’s eagerly-awaited biopic finally has a name: Thalaivan Thalaivii. Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Pandiraj, it’ll be the perfect mix of comedy, domestic drama and the sort of messy, awkward moments common to life and love that happen to be a little too close to home.
The teaser — debuting today — starts in a surprisingly mouthwatering place, with close-ups of food sizzling and simmering, planting the audience right in the middle of a lively kitchen. It is here that we first meet Vijay and Nithya’s characters, embroiled in an adorable battle of the taste buds that rapidly turns from playful flirtation to an all-out kitchen quarrel.
Their dynamic? All is fair in love, laughter, and war, I guess. The teaser is a delicious taster of their on-screen rapport, with the two trading caustic lines while pans bang and dough rolls. And just when it feels like the insanity can't get any crazier, the comedy bomb Yogi Babu rises and eerily comments that it isn’t a “normal” couple! The teaser veers abruptly when we see Sethupathi’s character pulling out a gun and opening fire — and signing off with an electrifying jolt.
Thalaivan Thalaivii is the second film that will see Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen sharing screen space following the Malayalam project and the fans of the duo are elated to witness this Tamil reunion.
Directed and penned by Pandiraj, the film is bankrolled by Sathya Jyothi Films and has music composed by the popular Santhosh Narayanan. The teaser has already given a hint that this film promises an entertainer genre-bending but makers are to reveal the official release date.
With its messy kitchens to its emotional showdowns, it looks like Thalaivan Thalaivii is ready to serve us up a cinematic dish that’s full of flavour, fire and feels.
