Anticipation is running high across the country for Border 2, the much-awaited sequel to the iconic war film Border. With a stellar cast featuring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, the film is already making waves—even before its release.
Several other prominent names are also expected to join the ensemble, making it one of the most ambitious Bollywood war dramas in recent times.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, actress Sonam Bajwa has officially joined the cast in a significant role. Sources close to the production reveal that Sonam will be portraying a “strong-headed Punjabi Girl,” and will commence filming by the end of June.
“Sonam Bajwa is paired alongside Diljit Dosanjh in Border 2. Much like Border, her character has a strong emotional arc, and her dynamics with Diljit will stand-out as one of the major highlights, alongside the war sequences and the Indo-Pak conflict,” a source shared.
Filming is already underway, with Diljit Dosanjh currently shooting his portions in Pune. The remainder of the principal cast—including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Sonam Bajwa—are scheduled to begin shooting in the next couple of weeks.
“Border 2 will be shot from June until Mid-August, with combination shoot of all the lead actors – Sunny, Varun, Diljit, Ahan, and Sonam – among others. The makers will be locking one more top female actor to play the parts alongside Varun and the casting is presently underway,” the source added.
Among the most talked-about developments is the recreation of the beloved patriotic anthem Sandese Aate Hai. Originally composed by Anu Malik and sung soulfully by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, the song became an emotional cornerstone of the 1997 film. In Border 2, the legendary track will be reimagined, this time with Sonu Nigam returning to lend his voice, joined by none other than Arijit Singh—creating a powerful fusion of past and present.
Border 2 is scheduled for a spectacular Republic Day 2026 release, with more than half of the movie already finished. The goal of the production is to create the most spectacular war movie in Indian cinematic history. For more exclusive coverage, stay in touch with Pinkvilla.
