Rohit Shetty, the master of high-octane action films and the creator of one of Bollywood's most successful cop universes, has confirmed plans to bring to life a standalone film for Lady Singham with Deepika Padukone in the lead. The announcement has already sent ripples of excitement through fans of Shetty's signature style and has left audiences eagerly awaiting the next chapter in his action-packed cinematic world.
In an exclusive conversation with India Today Digital, Shetty revealed, “We will be making ‘Lady Singham’ soon, but it will take time.” This statement, while offering some insight into the future of the character, also indicates that fans will have to wait a little while before they can see Deepika Padukone fully embrace the role of a fierce police officer, similar to Ajay Devgn’s iconic character, Bajirao Singham.

Deepika's character, Shakti Shetty, made a memorable entry in Singham Again, which has already proved to be a blockbuster, grossing over Rs 200 crore at the box office. The film not only continues Shetty’s legacy of thrilling action sequences but also brings together a formidable ensemble cast, with Deepika’s Shakti Shetty marking the first female police officer to join the director's ever-expanding cop universe. Fans were quick to dub her character “Lady Singham,” drawing parallels to Ajay Devgn’s role, and Shetty confirmed that she would indeed be a key part of this larger cinematic world.
Rohit Shetty explained, “All of them will have an individual story. They may be part of somebody’s past or future but will have a connection. They are all there because they will each have their own film. This is why we introduced Deepika and Tiger [Shroff].” This statement further fuels the anticipation around Shetty’s vision for a multi-layered cop universe, where each character—whether it’s Shakti Shetty, Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, or Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi—will have the opportunity to shine in their standalone stories.
One of the most talked-about moments surrounding Deepika’s role in Singham Again was the way her character spoke. Early reactions from fans and critics compared her accent to that of her famous role as Meenamma from Chennai Express. However, Shetty was quick to dismiss such comparisons, laughing off the criticism in the interview. “There is no accent and there is no connection with Chennai Express. People just make up things. I think if you’ve watched Meenamma well, you will see there is no similarity,” he said, adding that the character of Shakti Shetty is distinct in its own right.
The move to create a Lady Singham film has been long anticipated, as many fans have been calling for more female-driven action films in Bollywood. Deepika Padukone, known for her versatile performances in films ranging from Padmaavat to Chhapaak, has proven time and again that she is more than capable of carrying intense roles. Shetty’s faith in her to lead Lady Singham adds to the growing excitement surrounding the project.
For now, audiences will have to wait before they get to see Shakti Shetty’s journey unfold on the big screen. However, with Shetty’s proven track record of blockbuster films and his skill in weaving action and drama into compelling narratives, Lady Singham is sure to be another thrilling ride. As the cop universe continues to grow, Deepika Padukone’s introduction into this world has set the stage for what is bound to be an exciting new chapter.
