National Award Winner Pradeep Advaitham to direct Champion, a period sports drama by Kalki 2898 AD makers, coming this Christmas

Riding on the success of Kalki 2898 AD, the makers are back with a fresh collaboration, this time joining forces with ZEE Studios to bring audiences Champion — a stirring period sports drama from National Award-winning filmmaker Pradeep Advaitham.

Produced by Swapna Cinemas, in association with Anandi Art Creations and Concept Films, the film stars Roshann as the determined Michael C. Williams, alongside Anaswara Rajan in the female lead.

Champion, which is set in pre-independence India, tells the tale of Michael, a young man whose life is centred around his intense passion for football.

The movie chronicles his journey through highs and lows, demonstrating his tenacity in the face of both personal and societal obstacles. On and off the pitch, it's about having courage, having a purpose, and standing up for what you believe in. It's not just about sports.

A story full of heart and grit is hinted at in the teaser, which was released to a warm reception. Michael is portrayed by Roshann with a blend of passion and sensitivity, and Anaswara Rajan gives the story warmth and nuance.

When taken as a whole, they promise a story that is both visually stunning and emotionally stirring.

He adds, “Roshann brought incredible depth to the role, making Michael feel both heroic and human. I believe audiences will see a part of themselves in his struggles and triumphs.”

Champion meticulously details the visuals to take viewers back to the 1940s. Cinematographer R. Madhie captures the period with cinematic flair, while art director Thota Tharani authentically recreates it.

Every moment feels alive thanks to the film's music, which was composed by G.V. Prakash and combines the thrill of athletics with romance, patriotism, and drama.

Champion, which is scheduled for release on December 25, 2025, is expected to be a Christmas spectacle that honours willpower, fervour, and the human spirit. With its blend of emotion, history, and athletic drama, it looks like a movie that will stick with you long after the credits have rolled.
